Robert LeRoy Maready, 79, of Mesa, AZ died peacefully of natural causes on October 12, 2021.  He lived life fully alongside his beloved wife, Ann.  This year LeRoy and Ann would be celebrating 57 years of marriage.  Always most important to LeRoy, was his love of his family.

LeRoy was born at home on December 27, 1941, on his family’s small farm in rural North Carolina. He was the first of two children born to his parents, Robert Franklin Maready and Effie Olene Sholar Maready.  After graduating from Wallace High School in 1960, LeRoy enrolled at Brigham Young University, where he made many lasting friendships.  He interrupted his studies to serve a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Germany, gaining many more dear friends.  While at BYU he met and courted Ann Hastings, considered by many to be one of the sweetest and prettiest girls around.

LeRoy and Ann wed in November 1964 and were the proud parents of five wonderful children, 21 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, born this year.

LeRoy will continue to be remembered by his family and those he has given service to as a man with a generous and loving heart, a man whose greatest treasure was his family, and a man who was brave and courageous when life gave him challenges and adversity.

LeRoy was preceded in death by his father Frank, his mother Effie, his sister Brenda, and two granddaughters, Cesca and Celeste.  He is survived by his wife Ann, his daughter Susan (Don) Buehner, son David (Rebecca) Maready, daughter Julie (John) Peterson, son Stephen Maready, and son Douglas (Tiffany) Maready, grandchildren Teancum, Chynna, Sophie and Luke Buehner; Tayler, Tanner, Brigham and Grace Maready; Emily, Jacob, Joseph and Anna Peterson; Jordan, Hunter, Mallory, Haley and Ryder Maready; Tyler, Zachary and Crew Maready and great-grandchildren Jimi Love Maready and Wesley James Peterson.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at 11:00 am, and a service at 12:00 pm at Bunker’s University Chapel located at 3529 E. University Drive in Mesa, AZ. Steve & family, we were sad to hear of the passing of Leroy. May the blessings of the gospel comfort you at this time.

  • Sad to hear about Leroy. Wish we could be there, but know we’ll be thinking of each of you. I had a nice visit with both your Mom and Dad back in early spring when they first opened up for visitors. Probably one of the best conversations I’ve had with your Dad.
