Kathie Jossie passed away peacefully on September 16, 2024 in Gilbert, Arizona. She lived a long and happy life in Arizona.
She was born on January 23rd, 1943 in Washington DC during WWII to Kenneth Chatwin and Melba Lloyd Chatwin. When she was two years old, her family moved to Phoenix where she grew up. She went to North High School and after graduation met her future husband Gregg Jossie.
Kathie and Gregg were married in 1962 and raised five children. The house was always filled with music and fun.
Kathie taught piano lessons for over 50 years. She was always involved as an accompanist for soloists, girl’s choirs, Phoenix Boy’s Choir, dance groups, church choirs, church services and community and high school musical theatre productions. Kathie’s love of musicals and classical music was passed on to her kids. Her favorite thing to do was to read. She loved all her books and had a large collection. Kathie had a passion for patriotism and all things rooted in conservative politics. She also loved sewing and quilting and making sure her fabric collection far outpaced her finished projects. She loved to make homemade cards to send to family and friends when she remembered.
Kathie’s faith as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has never wavered. She loved the gospel and had a firm testimony of the Savior’s love. She tried to serve others in any way she could. She held mostly music callings in the wards she was in along with other leadership positions.
Gregg and Kathie lived in Camp Verde, Arizona for 32 years and enjoyed their close friendships with all the wonderful people in their small town. Gregg predeceased Kathie in July of 2023. They were married for 60 years.
Kathie is survived by four of her five children – Kent (Kerry) Jossie, Kim (Matt) Leach, Jennifer (Brad) Landseadel, Janna (Burton) Dayley who passed in December of 2022, and Aaron (Allison) Jossie. She has 25 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her dear sister Rita (Sid) Mitchell. Kathie’s younger sister Melbalyn Chatwin passed away in 2004.

Thank you for sharing your mother’s life story. Sounds like she did, indeed, have a wonderful life. So sorry for your loss. She clearly had amazing people around her and knew she was loved.
I spent many hours with Kathy through the years on various projects. Especially memorable was the time spent with her and Rita at the International Quilt Markets. Kathy was a wonderful and willing friend. She will be sorely missed.
