VerJean Burton, age 86, passed away on the evening of November 3, 2018 in Mesa, AZ. Born in Phoenix, AZ on August 5, 1932 to the late Nuel and Vergia Cordon, she grew up as the oldest of five children in what is now historic downtown Phoenix. She graduated from what was formally North Phoenix High School and then attended Phoenix College. It was there that she met her husband, John Harold Burton, when they were both cast in the same production of “Green Grow the Lilacs.” VerJean and John were married on June 19, 1953 in Phoenix and were married for 62 years.

VerJean was a loving mother to seven children and was a devoted grandmother to her 32 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Anyone who knew this lovely woman knew she was a woman of great faith, kindness, and was always blessed with a happy disposition. She was quick to smile and loved to laugh. VerJean enjoyed music, loved to read, was a wonderful cook, and a natural talent in theater arts, performing in many local productions in her youth. The center of her life was always her family and her faith. She lived her life with joyful service and a love for others. Above all, she loved her Heavenly Father and her Savior unwaveringly and was a genuine example of Christ-like love.

VerJean is preceded in death by her husband, John H. Burton, and her siblings, Jay Cordon, Patti Tubbs, and Michael Cordon. She is survived by her sons, Dan (Lisa) Burton, David (Jana) Burton, and Steve (Melanie) Burton; daughters, Cathy Smith, CarolAnn (Rich) Boyd, MaryAnn (Anthony) Kaberry, and Allison (Damon) Fleming. VerJean is also survived by her brother, Steve Cordon, and a multitude of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The number of people whose lives this special lady has touched is numerous and immeasurable. She was so loved and will be missed by many, but we also know what a beautiful family reunion she is having now.

A visitation will be held on Friday, November 16, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00pm at Bunker’s Garden Chapel, 33 North Centennial Way, Mesa, AZ. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 10:00 a.m., with a second visitation at 9:00 a.m., ath the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2202 North 74th Street, Scottsdale, AZ.
