Dr. Subodh S. Shroff was a caring husband, father, physician and friend. He left this world peacefully and surrounded by family on May 23, 2021 at age 71.

Subodh was born in Baroda, India on December 7, 1949 to parents Pramila and Sumanlal, and was a beloved brother to his siblings, Parimal, Sadhana, Avani, and Snehal. Coming from humble beginnings, he studied tirelessly to become a physician and improve his station in life. After earning his MD at MS University in Baroda, he immigrated to the United States in 1975 for his Internal Medicine residency in Chicago. Dr. Shroff then opened a private practice in River Forest, Illinois where he specialized in primary care and geriatrics for many years. He was regarded for his vast medical knowledge and the extensive time he spent to provide thorough and individualized care. Well loved by his patients, he was always receiving gifts from them and was often invited to their family events. Dr. Shroff moved to Gilbert, Arizona in 2008, where he continued his medical career and later retired.

Nothing was more important to Subodh than his role as a family man. He was a very proud father to his three daughters, Jennifer, Monica, and Erica.  Despite his rigorous work schedule, he always made time to attend their field trips, help with their homework, read them fairy tales, and take them on family vacations.  He was very affectionate and did not miss an opportunity to tell them how much he loved and was proud of them. Seeing the impact their father had on his patients throughout their childhood, his daughters were all moved to seek careers in healthcare. In recent years, Subodh became a loving grandfather to his three grandsons, Liam, Aiden, and Colin. He will forever be their role model for hard work, a positive attitude, and the importance of family.

Subodh was a devoted husband to his wife, Vibhuti.  He showered her with love, writing her songs and bringing her chocolates and stargazer lilies (his favorite flower) on every occasion. They enjoyed traveling, socializing with friends, singing karaoke, and attending concerts and comedy shows. He loved eating her delicious food and helping clean up the kitchen after meals. After his retirement, they spent many happy hours together, playing cards and Rummikub, going for walks, and exploring Arizona with daytrips to scenic mountain towns.

Everyone Subodh met instantly became family to him. Adored by friends in India, Chicago, Phoenix, and beyond, he will always be remembered for his magnetic smile, his lyrical talents, and his desire to help others. Throughout his career and even after retirement, he always went out of his way to help others with medical advice and care. He had a true passion for poetry and music, especially Indian classical music. He was well known for the thoughtful poems he wrote and sang to family and friends on all of life’s occasions.

Subodh faced the challenges of life with courage, faith, optimism. He was truly one of a kind and will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Funeral services will take place on Friday, May 28 at Bunker Family Funeral in Mesa, AZ. Viewing, pooja, and memorial will be from 1-3pm with cremation to follow.

  • I met Subodh uncle when he helped Erica and I move in to our apartment. Although I only met him briefly, his love for his daughter Erica was evident in every way. He set up every little thing for the comfort of his daughter and I, her roommate. It showed how much he cared for everyone, and wanted to make sure that we were not troubled in any way. He drove a very long distance to help his daughter move in and ensure that every need of hers was met. He was simply the most caring and loving father to say the least. May god give your soul peace. You are missed and will always be missed by everyone whose heart you touched in such meaningful ways.

It’s a big loss to our family. We all will miss him so much. We have captured so many memories with him. For those of faith, death is not a permanent loss but a temporary separation with the one we love. May all the sorrows of today fade away and God’s peace and comfort fill our heart.

May time soothe our soul and bring us peace within, as he would want us to be happy as life begins again. With Heartfelt Love and Sympathy. 🙏🙏🙏

  • John and Kelsey Burgess

We are sorry for your loss. Getting to know Dr. Schroff’s wonderful and kind daughters is a testament to what a great man and father he was. He will be truly missed.

  • Although I was unable to spend as much time with Subodh Uncle as I wished, in the few moments we spoke I could hear the love, empathy, and compassion in his voice. Even only after the 2nd time we spoke, as I was hanging up he said “ok beta, love you”. Getting to spend these last few months around his family and hear the stories they shared, I am amazed at how selfless he was in always putting others before himself.

Thru his passion of taking care of others, he has influenced 3 amazing daughters to follow in his footsteps.

I am eternally grateful to Uncle for raising such a beautiful daughter whom I have gotten to know for the past 2 years and who always says how she was raised by the best dad in the world. The world feels a little more cloudy without him in it, but his impact and legacy shines bright by those who have had the pleasure of knowing him.

    With Love,
    – Sean
