Sondra Atwood Crandell, age 78 of Mesa, AZ passed away peacefully in her home 15 July 2018 surrounded by loving family members.  She was born 2 August 1939 in San Bernardino, CA to Albert Benton Atwood & Anita Richardson Atwood.

Sondra grew up and attended schools in Mesa, AZ and graduated from Mesa High School in 1957.  2 May 1958 Sondra married her childhood sweetheart, Donovan Crandell, in the Mesa, AZ LDS Temple.  They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

Sondra was blessed with many talents that she shared with everyone around her.  She truly tried to be an instrument in God’s hands on a daily basis by loving and serving those around her.

During her lifetime she held many callings in the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  Callings that included: Primary Teacher, Primary Chorister, Primary President, Young Women’s President, Relief Society President, Choir Director and Stake Primary President.  Those who know her lover her and her ability to care for all around her.  She truly was a disciple of Christ.

Sondra leaves behind her eternal companion Donovan Crandell, children: Becky Folkman (Cache), Amy Chandler (Doug), Donovan Bert Crandell, William Todd Crandell (Tiffani), 22 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.

Sondra was proceed in death by her father, Albert Benton Atwood, mother, Anita Richardson Atwood and daughter, Vicki Crandell Fletcher.

A visitation will be held Thursday, July 19, 2018 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Bunker’s University Chapel, 3529 E. University Dr., Mesa, AZ 85213. Memorial services will be held Friday, July 20, 2018 at 10:00AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mountain Vista Ward, 6655 E. Preston St., Mesa, AZ 85215.

    I have many fond memories motorcycle riding and up at the cabin with your family. Sister Crandell was a wonderful part of those memories. My love goes out to all of you.

    So sorry to hear about Sondra’s passing. Love to all her family. Sondra and Donovan…..
    I mean “Sugar Lips” and “Greaser”……have a special place in our hearts. They’re just a lot of fun!
    If you were lucky enough to go on a road trip with them time passed quickly as you played CB
    games from car to car…..such as “Stinky Pinky”. Sondra was hard to keep up with possessing such
    energy and talents. Thanks for the memories! We send our love and sympathy to all the family.

    I am sorry to read about Sondra… We were good 7th ward friends, roommates at BYU and Mesa High School mates.. This is a difficult time to go through, but tender mercies can attend you all. My thoughts and prayers are for you Donovan and your children. Thanks for the special friends you are to me.
