About Shirley DeAnn Hainline Shannon

Shirley DeAnn Hainline Shannon, 85, passed away peacefully at her home in Goodyear, Arizona, on April 8, 2026, with two of her daughters, Whitney and Darren, by her side.

Born on January 15, 1941, in San Bernardino, California, Shirley was the daughter of LaWanda Belle Thompson and James Robert Hainline. She was raised in Oxnard, California, where she attended local schools and graduated from Oxnard Union High School in 1958. A hard worker from an early age, Shirley began her first job at just 11 years old and later worked at Graham’s Men’s Wear throughout high school. She went on to graduate from Oxnard School of Cosmetology and became a licensed cosmetologist.

Family and friendship were the foundation of Shirley’s life. She maintained close bonds with her high school friends, gathering with them year after year, a tradition she treasured deeply

She married Michael James Shannon in Las Vegas, and their union was later solemnized for time and eternity in the Los Angeles Temple. Following her conversion in 1966, Shirley remained a devoted member of her faith and carried her love for the Lord throughout her life.

Together, Shirley and Michael built a life centered on love, family, and service. They made their first home in Camarillo, California, and later settled in Lompoc, where Shirley was actively involved in her community, organizing Hilltop 4-H and working with youth in Vandenberg Village.

Shirley was a devoted mother to her six children: Shannon Leigh, Whitney Blaine, Darren Shannon, Mickey Shannon, Patrick Shannon, and Laurel Zaugg. Her family was her greatest joy, growing to include 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly.

Later in life, Shirley and Mike moved to Utah, where she worked full-time and became known for her dedication, strong work ethic, and pride in rarely missing a day of work.

Shirley was talented, creative, and generous, always sharing her projects and gifts with her children and friends. She had a warm spirit, a wonderful sense of humor, and a love of laughter that brought joy to those around her. She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, faithfully supporting her family through every season of life.

Her faith remained a guiding light. She was committed to the Lord and served Him faithfully to the very end, never hesitating to share her love for Him with others.

She was preceded in by her husband Michael James Shannon; her parents LaWanda Belle Thompson and James Robert Hainline; her step father, Ali Ymer; her brother, Jimmie Hainline; and her son, Mickey Shannon.

Shirley will be remembered for her strength, her unwavering devotion to her family, her enduring friendships, and her deep and abiding faith. She will be truly missed.

A short service will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 212 E. Central Ave., Lompoc, CA, on May 1, 2026, at 12:30 PM. A graveside dedication prayer will follow, and all are welcome to attend both services.

In lieu of a reception, the family will honor her memory with a private gathering following the burial.
