Heaven received the best Christmas gift this year as Melvin Howard Martineau was reunited with his eternal companion, Denna Skousen Martineau. On December 23 of 2018, Melvin returned to his sweetheart of 55 years after a well fought and courageous battle with cancer. Melvin is survived by his three children, Eric, Sharon, and Joseph; as well as two sisters, Fay and Anna May. He is beloved by countless grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as numerous foster children, exchange students, and extended family, whom he welcomed into his home.

Melvin led a life full of faith, love, integrity, compassion, and humility. He was a wealth of knowledge and was a divine example of a selfless companion. Health trials and tribulations troubled both Denna and Melvin, but unwavering faith and love created a strong foundation for the both of them to stand strong with one another. No earthly battle was strong enough for the fight of this fearless pair. Melvin was admired for his honesty and noble like demeanor by all who loved him.

Melvin grew up in a humble household in Arizona before serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in California. He also served a mission with Denna in Arizona and a South American mission in Bolivia.

Melvin served the Lord holding many positions in his church. His most current and cherished calling being a Sealer in the Mesa Arizona Temple. He absolutely loved serving in the Temple and having the honor of sealing families and couples together for time and all eternity.

Melvin’s career involved being an accomplished accountant and he achieved the honor of an enrolled agent working for the IRS. His hobbies included singing in the Arizona Mormon Choir, all things music related, and gardening, where he relished the fruits of his labor.

Melvin dedicated his life to his family and relentlessly worked on genealogy. This work is honored by the annual Hardy Family reunion which reunites 7 generations each year. During his time spent at home he enjoyed song, scripture, and family home evenings. Any person who has ever known Melvin Howard Martineau never questioned his integrity, nobility, or willingness to serve.
