Margaret Mortenson Childs passed away peacefully in her sleep, at her home, on Sunday June 9th., one day before her 87th. Birthday.

Margaret was born in Douglas Arizona on June 10, 1932, the 8th. child of Nellie Kerby and Andrew Mortenson.  Margaret grew up outside of Douglas until the age of 14 when she and her family moved to Pomona, California. When she was younger, she played the violin as well as tap danced. In California, she was active in school, and was always very smart, earning high grades throughout school. She was a pom pom girl, and going to the beach with friends was her favorite past time activity. She would often play the ukulele with her friends at school, getting groups together to sing and play the uke also.

After graduating from Pomona High School, Margaret worked for the phone company, and then at Kelly Marmalade Factory as a receptionist where she met her husband Bob. She loved the outdoors, going on long Sunday drives, gardening (no one had a better green thumb than her), and traveling (although she never got to do a lot of that). She continued to play the ukulele from her high school years, but played to her kids, family, and friends, and was totally self taught. She also played the organ, and was self taught on that as well. Her home was always beautiful and she had an amazing knack for decorating. She was an amazing cook, although she would tell you that she really didn’t like to cook. She was a very classy lady, and although very humble and shy, she was always the ultimate hostess – waiting on everyone else. Everyone always talked about how sweet and kind Margaret was and how special she made them feel.

Margaret and Bob were always very patriotic and both loved their country very much. She and Bob belonged to The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints, and they had a strong testimony of the Savior.  She served in many callings in the church throughout her lifetime, including serving in the San Diego Temple.

Margaret is preceded in death by her eternal companion Robert (Bob) Childs as well her parents, 7 siblings and one grandson.

She is survived by their 3 children, Debbie (Roger) Foote, Sheri (Jim) Alvey, and Mike Childs, as well as 14 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren that she loved dearly.

The family would like to thank her dear friend Sannette as well as her wonderful caregiver Alisha for their love and support of mom.

Funeral services will be 10 AM Saturday, June 15 at the Kenneth Chapel, 3572 East Guadelupe, Gilbert.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Gary Sinise Foundation:  https://www.garysinisefoundation.org/donate/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIj6vVwPTi4gIVR7XACh1hqAOEEAAYASAAEgID4vD_BwE
