About Leland Clifford Vance

Leland Clifford Vance, age 83, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2026, in Monroe, Utah. He was born on March 6, 1944, in Mesa, Arizona, to Orwell Nicolas (Orv) and Lucy Ette Fryer Vance. Leland lived a life defined by faith, hard work, and deep devotion to his family.

On August 7, 1963, he married his high school sweetheart, Jayne Evelyn Stradling, in the Mesa Arizona Temple. Together, they built a strong and enduring marriage, raising their family in love and in the teachings of the gospel. Jayne preceded him in death on April 9, 2014. Later in life, Leland found companionship again and married Deon Dibble Christensen on June 27, 2015, with whom he shared love, friendship, and continued faith.

Leland began his professional life as an elementary teacher, where he educated and influenced many young lives. He later applied his talents to the trades, working as a skilled plasterer and eventually owning and operating his own plastering company. Through dedication and craftmanship, he became a respected general contractor, known for his integrity and commitment to excellence.

A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Leland devoted much of his life to serving others. He served honorably as a Bishop, counselor in the bishopric, Stake High Councilman, and later as a Stake Patriarch. In these sacred callings, he offered guidance, blessings, and comfort to many, sharing his testimony and love of the Savior. His Life was a quiet but powerful example of discipleship, service, and enduring faith.

He was a devoted father to Leland Gregg, Darren Allan, Ryan Kelly, and Kimberly Lynn (who preceded him in death on May 11, 1975) as well as to his Christensen children, Scott, Katie, Curtis, Krista, and Grant. He was also a proud grandfather to 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, as well as to his 4 Christensen grandchildren -- all of whom brought him great joy and happiness. He is also survived by his beloved sister, Myrna Johnson.

Leland will be remembered for his steady strength, his kindness, and his unwavering testimony. His legacy lives on in the family he raised, the lives he blessed, and the faith he carried throughout his life. He is deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who know him. We take comfort in the knowledge that families are eternal and that through the Atonement of Jesus Christ, we will see him again.

A viewing will be held prior to services on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Church.
