Karen Jean Urban

07/07/1943 - 07/01/2024

Beloved mother and grandmother Karen Jean (Curry) Urban, formerly of Everson, WA, passed away unexpectedly on July 1, 2024, in Mesa, AZ.

Karen, the daughter of Carl and Pauline (Petersen) Curry, was born on July 7, 1943 in Maywood, CA. Her early years were spent in Northwestern Washington State, followed by a move to Lynwood, CA. She graduated from Lynwood High School in 1962. While at a USO dance in Long Beach, CA, she met Ronald Urban. They were united in marriage on February 12, 1966, in Long Beach, California. After Ron’s discharge from the Navy, they moved to Hays, KS, before settling in Everson, WA.

Karen and Ron had a small hobby farm on Lunde Road for 40 years, and Karen thrived as a homemaker. She would fill her days with caring for her children, cooking, baking, sewing, gardening, canning, and tending to animals on the homestead. Once her boys were grown, she took a position in the non-profit realm. Ron and Karen retired to Mesa, AZ, in 2014.

Karen is survived by her sons, Marc of Lynden, WA, and Joseph (Erika) of St. Peter, MN, and her grandchildren, Kade, Amelia, Owen, Eden, and Frederick.

Karen was preceded in death by her husband Ronald, her parents, sister Mary (Curry) Somerville, and her in-laws Edward and Eleanor (Suppes) Urban.

She will be missed greatly by all who knew her.

Condolences

  • I worked with Karen at the Farmers State Bank in Hays many moons ago. She was always a delight in the bookkeeping department. We never saw each other after leaving Farmers State but kept in touch every Christmas with our lengthy Christmas letter. She missed Ron so much and now she can be happy with her true love. Much sympathy and God bless.

  • Marc, Joe and family. I’m so sorry for your loss. She will be greatly missed. She was such a neat lady. She always had a smile. It was fun to work with her in House of Lloyd. God bless your family and hold you in the palm of your hand while you grieve. She is now with Ron.

  • Shelly Manthey

Sorry for your loss . Just no, she has gone home.????

  • Karen was a good friend. We shared our faith in Jesus in all our lives. Karen was so strong in her trust in the Lord. She blessed my life with many examples. She is worshiping at the feet of Jesus. Hallelujah GOD IS GLORIFIED!
