Frances Violet Weatherly

04/25/1925 - 08/25/2014

Frances S. Weatherly, 89, passed away at Lund Hospice House, Gilbert, AZ on August 25, 2014. She was born on April 25, 1925 to Frank and Lela Sherman in Thermopolis, Wyoming. She loved children and dedicated her life to education, teaching public school in Montana and retired, as a full professor, from Montana State University. She was married to John Bruce Weatherly and they had a daughter, Shannon, who predeceased her in 1982. Her sister, Mary Davis of Washington, many friends, and her cat Cossette, will miss her daily. Her final years were spent in Arizona (Show Low and Mesa), but Montana was always “home”. No services were held.

Condolences

  • We lost contact with Frances some years ago. Her dedication to education and students will be a tremendous loss. She will be truly missed. I noticed there was no mention in her obituary of the Shannon Weatherly Lecture Series of Montana State University or of the Shannon Weatherly Lecture Fund of The Iliff School of Theology that Frances established many years ago…actually, back in the 80s. I’m sure she would have wanted them mentioned for donations in Shannon’s and her names. I hope friends will remember to make such donations. Also, I am certain she must have been cremated. Does anyone know the disposition of her ashes?

  • I find I must expound on my last email. Frances wanted Shannon’s ashes to be disposed of with her ashes at the time of Frances’ death. Shannon’s ashes have been safely on deposit in Billings until such time of Frances’ passing, so, please, if anyone knows of her ashes disposition, please so advise. Thank you.
