Daniel “Danny” J. Scanlon, JR, son of the late Kate and Daniel J. Scanlon SR, passed away October 14, 2023, at the age of 93 3/4. He lived a full life dedicated to God and his family.

Corporal Scanlon served in the Army National Guard from 1948-1987. Danny became a Knight in the Knights of Columbus in 1970 and was a honorary lifetime 3rd degree member. He was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey and lived in New Jersey until March 17, 1985, where he transplanted his family to Mesa, Arizona. Danny then went to work for Christ the King church where he later retired after 20 years of service.

Danny met the love of his life, Harriet Gloria, in late 1982. On May 26, 1983, Harriet and Danny married, they moved their family to Arizona in 1985. Out of this union they blended their family with whom he is survived by:  Dorothy Scanlon, Danny “Little Dan” Scanlon III, of Toyoko Japan and his wife Michiko (Danny adored), Shera Roames (Danny would say she is a true treasure, always there when you need her, and always willing to help, full of love and always available to give a helping hand) her fiancé Brian Gibson (Danny’s best buddy with whom he reminded was always a Great Man), Sharon Taylor (the “Baby” & Danny’s pride and joy, his helper, rescuer, ready to show love  and always there to lend a helping hand) and her fiancé Chris Lehman (Danny’s football buddy who showed him love  and compassion as well as guidance whenever needed). From their amazing children came Danny’s pride and joy, his six beautiful Grandchildren: Jimmy Scanlon (his incredible gift that continued to warm his heart), Jennifer Wilson (his joy and delight) and her husband Rick, Stacey Lutz (his Sunshine, with whom he was most proud of the amazing strong, talented, caring woman, wife and mother she has become) and her husband Erik Lutz (Danny’s favorite history buff who he described as the most patient and kind soul), Stephen Taylor (his inspiration as he watched him become a great father and provider for his family), Shambree Roames (Danny always said she is his successful, beautiful, one-of-a-kind, ‘an original’, and the one that could always make him laugh; he would beam with admiration with the incredible woman, wife, and mother she has become) and her fiancé Adam (Danny described him as a man of few words whose generosity knows no bounds always willing to lend a helping hand) and Kaylee Hollerbach (he often described her as a true beauty both inside and out, as an example of power, of love, and perseverance, it warmed his heart to watch her become successful in all of her endeavors) and her husband Alex (Danny was grateful to him as Alex was always eager to help, for his constant care, dedication & love for his family). Along with five amazing Great Grandchildren: Nash, Aaliyah, Sophie, Rayne and Eric. His daughter (by choice) and loyal friend, Georgia Spurgeon.

Danny was quite the conversationalist and never met a stranger. He was the most caring, patient, and most giving man you will ever meet. He could fix anything! A true “Jack-of-all-trades”.  His whole life was dedicated to helping anyone or any animal in need & every month he picked ten charities to support; this was his way to give back to this world. His hobbies were, his family, church, his Grandchildren, McDonalds, Bahama Bucks, anything that had to do with railroads from all eras, and he loved to build!

Danny’s giving nature was returned ten-fold in his final days; when we met Wilton, his care-provider, who honored him with ultimate kindness, love, compassion, and dignity one could give to someone in his final days. We will forever be grateful to you Wilton; may God bless you for the work you do.

His passing reunites him with his beloved bride of 33 years, Harriet, who passed away in 2016, his parents Daniel and Kate Scanlon, and many relatives.

His loss is felt deeply by many; we were blessed to have such a caring soul be a part of all our lives.  His legacy will continue in the memories of his loved ones.  While we will miss his physical presence, we are comforted in having a strong guardian angel above.
