A Life Remembered

Obituary

Cris Dewaine McBride, 81 of Mesa, previously of Pinetop for 40 years, passed away on June 28, 2026. Cris was born in Safford, January 27, 1945, to Cleora Cluff McBride, widow of Dewaine James McBride who was killed in battle during WWII, shortly before Cris’s birth. Cris lived in Pima until he was six years old, when his mother married Wayne L Colvin. The family moved from Pima to Yuma, then Phoenix and then to Gila Bend where Cris attended sixth grade through High School, graduating in 1963.

Cris attended University of Arizona in Tucson where he graduated from pharmacy school in 1968, then worked as a pharmacist one year before attending medical school. After finishing medical school and residency in Tucson in 1976, Cris served as director of maternal and child health as well as pediatrician in Whiteriver. In July of 1980, he began a Pediatrics and General Practice in Pinetop. During his college years, Cris married his high school sweetheart, Barbara West in Gila Bend, and together they raised a family of eight children in Tucson, Whiteriver and Pinetop.

In 1994 Cris and Barbara were involved in an automobile accident, affecting physical wellbeing for both of them, resulting in Cris’s total disability. In 1995 after 30 years of marriage, Barbara passed away unexpectedly. Cris later married Virginia Iannoli and her six children also became part of the family in Pinetop. In 2016, Cris and Virginia moved to a lower altitude, first to Gila Valley, then to Mesa where they resided until his death. Cris had an interest in amateur radio and was a member and past president of the Kachina Amateur Radio Club. He also was involved as a FamilySearch Support missionary for many years.

As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, he served in the Snowflake temple for several years and the Gila Valley temple for a short time. Cris was predeceased by his wife, Barbara, two daughters, Carol McBride and Kristi Williamson, his mother Cleora Colvin, father Dewaine McBride and his stepfather, Wayne Colvin.
