After a valiant battle with brain cancer, Jennifer Lynn Johnson Hill, age 35, passed away Tuesday evening while surrounded by her family. She was a light in the life of many and will be dearly missed.

Born to Kerry and Carol Johnson, Jennifer was the oldest of six siblings who have always looked up to her. She grew up in Mesa, AZ and would later return there to raise her family. After graduating from Mesa High School, she left to attend Brigham Young University where she received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Speech Language Pathology and Audiology. She would then move to Bakersfield, California to begin her career and, as it would turn out, her family too. It was there that she met and fell in love with Brent Aaron Hill, whom she would later marry in the Mesa Arizona Temple. They are the parents of Bruce Aaron Hill (8), Jane Evelyn Hill (5), David Kerry Hill (4), Alexander Grant Hill (2), and Wesley Scott Hill (9 months).

Jennifer loved learning. She was a voracious reader and excelled in school. She had an extraordinary mind and deftly wielded it as an instrument to love, serve, and cheer for those around her. She loved people and was so good at finding beautiful, simple ways to connect with people and to help them feel loved – whether it was a cheery phone call, a handwritten note, or a personal visit.

Jennifer also loved music. She was an accomplished pianist with the ability to sit down and play almost any song. She loved singing and performing in choirs or small groups with friends and family. She also played the cello and loved classical music. She loved to listen to music, to dance to music with her children, to perform music, and to share music.

Jennifer filled our hearts with Christ-like love, exemplified selfless service and kindness, and brought light into a darkening world. Although our hearts ache beyond measure at this time, we rejoice and celebrate an amazing woman who had a tremendous, positive impact on so many lives. We rejoice in our Savior who, through the Atonement of Jesus Christ, made it possible for families to be together forever. To experience such sorrow is to have known great love, and how we loved our Jennifer!

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 11:00am, with a visitation prior to the service from 9:00am to 11:00am, at the LDS Kimball Stake Center, 1266 S 32nd St, Mesa, AZ 85204. Graveside services will take place at the City of Mesa Cemetery, 1212 N Center St, Mesa, AZ 85201, on Monday, October 1, 2018 at 9:00am.

  • My heart aches for Jennifer’s little family, her husband, her mom and dad, and her grandparents who are my dear cousins. My granddaughter was her roommate at BYU Freshman year, Gretta Parkinson, who loved Jennifer, too. May you all be comforted at this time and find hope in the future. Love to you all.
