Susan Lee McCrite was born in September 1946 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Royce and Marjorie (Brown) Squier. Susan peacefully passed away on October 31st at the age of seventy-six.
Susan grew up in Coshocton, Ohio, attending both grammar school and high school before graduating from the University of Akron, then graduate work at Northern Arizona University
Susan married Dwight Shobert in 1969 and had two daughters, Courtney and Kathryn.
Susan married Michael McCrite in July 2006. They honeymooned in Alaska on a cruise ship. They also enjoyed overseas travel to countries including Germany, Switzerland, Italy, and Austria. They loved spending quality time together in their home in Payson, Arizona.
Susan passionately taught world history and other subjects for thirty plus years. Many students have remained in contact with her through the years beyond the classroom. She was a loving mentor who modeled exemplar real-world life skills.
Susan enjoyed many activities beyond teaching in her retirement including shopping, watching movies, spending time with her grandchildren, walking her dog Harley, decorating her home for every season, and hosting delightful family dinner gatherings.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her first husband.
She is survived by her husband, Michael McCrite, brother Richard Squier & his wife Margie, and children Courtney & Katie Shobert, Kathryn Shobert, Katie & Chris Driving Hawk and Jason & Nikki McCrite. She was a loving grandmother to her grandchildren Bryson, Benjamin and Emerson.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Celebration of Life service at Bunkers Family Garden Chapel, 33 N. Centennial Way, Mesa AZ 85201, with visitation beginning one hour prior to the service at 3:00pm on Thursday, November 17, 2022.
In lieu of flowers or plants, please consider a donation to Hospice of the Valley.
Private, family-only inurnment will occur at Valley of the Sun Cemetery.

Susan was a shining light. She loved her husband and her family so much. She was so fiery and always made me laugh and touched me with her encouraging words. I feel so blessed to have had her as a patient and honored that she became a friend. She will be missed by so many but not forgotten.
I will miss my fun friend, it makes me so sad to loose her, she fought so hard for so long and I was there to see it, how strong you were Susan my red girl, she loved the color red so I called her my red girl, you will always be in my heart.
Oh my precious friend! How much you will be missed! We never did get to spend enough time together, but I so loved when you came to visit at the store! You were so funny and you didn’t even realize it! Thank you for all your support, you are one special person and I know God is happy to call you his own. We shared much more than just the same middle name; you will be in our thoughts an prayers.
Susan was one of my favorite classmates at Coshocton High School. She was so alive and vibrant. I will miss seeing her at class reunions. My condolences to her family and everyone else who was lucky enough to know her. Some people do make a real difference in life.
Susan was a delightful woman of God. I enjoyed your candor and ability to make light of any situation. Susan my friend….I will see you on glories side. Jesus holds you now, I am jealous. ❤️💯🥰
Susan was a wonderful and caring woman. Always so supportive and considerate. I will miss seeing her during my trips to AZ. My deepest sympathies to her family.
I’m so sorry to hear the passing of Susan. I remember her as Mrs. Squire from Taylor Jr high. She was one of my favorite teachers. She was funny, spunky, but also cared about her students and teaching. Sending my condolences and prayers to her family.
