A family “Memorial Service” for Tor Christian Stobbe was held on Monday, April 20, 2015, at the Korean Baptist Church in Tempe, AZ at 7:00 pm, Pastor Paul Ryu Hun, officiated. Tor Christian , age 44, died in a tragic single-car accident on April 15, 2015, around 8:15 pm, in Sun City, AZ.

A larger, open to the public, “Celebration of Life Service” will be held on May 16, 2015 at 11:00 am at The Korean Methodist Church located at 601 Tyler Rd. Albuquerque, NM, 87113, Pastor Kee Chun Kim, officiating.

Tor Christian was born in Milwaukee, WI, September 3rd, 1970.

He was known by his names Tor, Christian, and his nickname “Bodhi.” He grew up in Elm Grove, WI. He was active in a variety of sports in his youth, from football, wrestling, and ice hockey, to Taekwondo, downhill-skiing and hiking. He enjoyed running races, with his “marathoner” father who passed away, last year.

In 1990, Tor Christian graduated from Brookfield Central HS and he earned his BA degree in Oriental Philosophy from Arizona State University in 1998.

For many years, Tor Christian was a successful Sales Executive for Homeopathic (natural plant based) pharmaceutical companies: Guna, Inc., and Heel Inc. where he was ranked #2 in sales performance.

On February 24, 2003, he married Sug Ja Ko, an immigrant from Inchoen, South Korea, who came to Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA, along with her siblings, to pursue the “American Dream” as restaurant owners. Tor Christian was an integral participant in running the family restaurant, The Korean BBQ/Sushi and Sake.

In 2008, Tor Christian enrolled in The Southwest Acupuncture College in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He graduated in 2012, in order to become a doctor in Oriental Medicine, as an acupuncturist. Tor Christian lived a “diverse” spiritual life that was of the utmost importance to him. He also was well-rounded in Chinese medical theory and philosophy, energetic nutrition and herbal healing modalities. He was certified in homeopathic medication use from the Society of Homotoxicology.

In 2014, Tor Christian and Sug Ja relocated to Chandler, AZ to purchase an Asian Restaurant, called the Tokyo House and to live closer to his mother, after the loss of his father.He had goals to pursue his path and dream to become a Doctor of Chinese Medicine and was planning on starting his acupuncture practice in the near future. He was a “gifted healer” who wanted to share his special abilities with those who needed them.

Survivors include his wife of 12 years, Sug Ja (Ko) Stobbe; her parents, Jae Jun Ko and Hyo Soon Lee, who live in Inchoen, South Korea; Sug Ja’s sisters, Tea Yean Ko and Jane DH (Ko) Melzweiler and her brother, Jin Sok Ko (Jiwon Kim). He is also survived by his mother, LeeAnn Stobbe; his siblings, Eric Stobbe, Christina (James) Carpentier and Kai Stobbe (Diana); his nephew, Keegan, and his nieces, Kailee, Alexxis, and Angela and by Gretchen (his mom’s beloved dog). He was preceded in death by his, father, Knud Christian Stobbe, MD.

Tor Christian Stobbe was beloved by his wife and family and the many peoples’ lives he touched, with his kindness, his sense of humor and his generosity of spirit. He will be missed, immensely.

    Christy notified us today of what happened to Tor. We are deeply saddened by the loss of Tor. He will be sorely missed by his family and the many many people he touched in his life. He exhibited all of the qualities that parents would love to see in their own children. He is most certainly with the Lord now. Please know that he is in our prayers to Our Lord and to the Blessed Mother as we offer prayers for Tor and healing for his most beloved family and friends. We will be saying these prayers and remembering Tor at our Church of Worship – St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Shrine to Our Lady of Fatima in Barnesville, Maryland.

    This tragedy has shaken every fiber of my soul and body. Tor was family to me. I was lucky enough to be friends with the whole Stobbe family during my formative years and there is a bond of love with the family that I will carry forever.
    Tor and I share the same birthday of Sept 3rd and more than that there has never been a day in my life that I have not had incredible memories of the entire Stobbe family. I am truly blessed to be part of the lives both of our families shared.
    After that I am at a loss for words which all of the Stobbes would rarely see. The emotions over the loss of Tor have overwhelmed me. He will still always be part of me and my life.

    It was with a great deal of shock and sorrow to learn of the tragic death of Tor Christian “Bohdi” Stobbe, my 44 year young, long time friend and confidant of the past 20 years. Tor, was a loving and gentle soul who I admired and became so proud of as he over came every challenge or obstacle that got in the way of his personal and professional pursuits. We were each others guiding light as we both journeyed down differed personal and spiritual paths. Both of which will eventually unite the two of us to find Rest in the Peace and comfort of God.
    Tor, I’ll miss you and heavens knows I’ll always remember you. My heartfelt sympathies to his loving wife, Sug Ja (Suzy) and to the entire Stobbe and Jo families, along with his friends and business associates. In closing, I can take comfort in knowing that our finals words to each other over our last phone conversation was “I Love You.” Cheers and Salute my dear friend on a life well lived.

    Our hearts are broken. We lost Tor too soon. I am thankful for the memories I had of him when I was a little girl and he was my cool cousin who would tell me stories and carry me around.     My deepest condolences to Tor’s wife and the entire Stobbe family. Though I had not stayed in touch with Tor after high school, he recently reappeared in my life through our mutual friend Phil Kloehn, and a nice text message exchange ensued between Tor and I, for which I’m grateful. I cannot conjure up a memory of Tor that isn’t filled with his excitement and passion for life – if you ever felt ho-hum about something, you’d better watch out, cause Tor was gonna pull you out of your shell and make you get in touch with what drives you! The Roosevelt quote says it all, and has always been one of my favorites…Tor did not believe in standing on the sidelines, criticizing others. He was in the game, always, and he wanted to see you in the game, competing, driving yourself to achieve more than you thought you could. He led by example, he wasn’t afraid of criticism, because he pushed himself harder than anybody else ever could. I admired Tor, and I regret not staying in touch with him after moving away from Wisconsin. It’s a life lesson I guess to not wait, not hold out for a more convenient time, to reach out to those we love and those who have helped shape us, been good friends, made us stronger, or just made us laugh, which Tor could also do VERY well! May he always rest in peace, and may the rest of us carry Tor’s spirit, drive and passion for life with us always.
