Nancy Jane Grasmoen Curtis, age 82, of Mesa, Arizona and formerly of Safford, quietly passed away at Lund Home Hospice of the Valley, in Gilbert on Saturday, May 27th, surrounded by her loving children.

Nancy was born on November 26, 1934 in Loma Linda, California to Otto and Cora Baker Grasmoen. Nancy spent her younger years in San Bernadino, California and then moving to Flagstaff in 1946 and lived at the Snowbowl, which her family owned and operated. Later she moved to McNary, Arizona where she graduated as valedictorian.

Nancy attended Eastern Arizona College, where she met and married Phil Curtis. Nancy lived in Safford for 25 years, where she was a homemaker and lived on the Carl & Phil Curtis Family Farm and raised 5 children.

While living in the Gila Valley, Nancy worked for Dr. Roudebush Optometry and at Ivanho Mobile Home Park for Ivan & Kathy Hancock.

On July 4, 1979, Nancy moved to Mesa, attended Mesa Community College and then received a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from ASU in 1983.  Nancy worked for Farnsworth Companies and retired from Dole Food Company (King’s Onion House).

In 1955, Nancy joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at age 21. She was very active in serving in her church and held many callings including Safford Stake Young Women’s President, Ward Relief Society President, Nursery Leader, Librarian, and many teaching and presidency callings.

Nancy loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren, and thoroughly enjoyed attending as many of their events as possible; which included football, basketball, dance, volleyball, soccer, karate and much more. She had a sense of adventure and loved to travel, going to places such as Israel, Norway, Costa Rica, Panama, Alaska, Hawaii, Washington D.C. and many other stateside locations. She was heartbroken when she couldn’t travel, due to her failing heart, over the past year.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents Otto and Cora Grasmoen. She is survived by her 5 children; David (Carrie) Curtis of Mesa, Diane (Steve) Junion of Safford, Lisa (Tony) Clifford of Safford, Jennifer Cortez of Gilbert, and Jay (Nicole) Curtis of Gilbert, 19 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, with one more expected next week, and two sisters Lois Fatjo of Portland, Oregon and Julie Willis of Heber, Arizona.
