Betty Jean Chapman Martin, a long-time Mesa resident, passed peacefully July 14, 2015 in Gilbert, AZ. Born July 25, 1931 she was proud of her heritage and the fact that her mother had attended a Pioneer Celebration and danced the evening away and delivered her the next morning prematurely. Betty, aka “Granny Martin”, beloved wife, mother and Granny was an important individual in all of our lives. Her smile and sense of humor brought out the value of an eternal family.

Betty was preceded in death by her father, Welcome Fullmer “Chink” Chapman, her mother, Imogene Adair Chapman, her brothers, Phillip Adair Chapman and Gordon Lamar Chapman, and her oldest son, Dallas Wayne Martin. Her brother, Fullmer Adair Chapman, passed away just 24 hours after Betty.

Betty is survived by her husband, Wayne Delbert Martin; her sons, Monte Lloyd Martin, DeLant L Martin (Tina), and Scott Arnold Martin (Sheila); and her daughter, Julie Martin Munden (Bill). Her posterity includes 16 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Friday, July 24, 2015 from 6-8 PM at Bunker’s Garden Chapel, 33 N. Centennial Way, Mesa, AZ. Funeral services are Saturday, July 25, 2015 at 10 AM, with visitation at 9 AM, at the LDS Poinsettia Ward Chapel, 1050 S. Hobson St., Mesa, AZ

  • To a mom who took her place to be a mom to me knowing my mom passed. You were such a loving sweet person. I have so many memories of your love with your grandsons, you were always there for them and us…Helped babysit and helped me be a good mom like you. I know you are at peace but I will miss you…You never said an unkind thing to me ever,,I am lost for words because I feel I will be lost not seeing your smile….I love you we all do and I know your with your dad an mom and brothers and family…I know we will see each other again. We have many memories of you and movies, you will always be in my heart and our family…Goodbye for now xoxoxo

    Martin Family, so sorry to hear of the passing of your mother. What a wonderful heritage she has left for her posterity. I believe it is true that whenever you lose your mom it is too soon.
