Joyce Elizabeth McGhan

Joyce Elizabeth Goffe McGhan, 89, passed away on Sept. 8, 2017 in Mesa, AZ after living an exemplary life full of love, happiness and selflessness.

The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 15^th at the LDS chapel on 825 S. 32^nd St. in Mesa, AZ. Bishop Scott Butler of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints will be officiating. Visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m. at the same location. Burial services will follow the funeral.

Grandma Joycie, as she was known to her grandchildren, was born on April 19^th, 1928 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Gustave Henry “Buck” Goffe and Ida Clark McAllister Goffe. She was raised with her 2 brothers, Richard Henry “Dick” Goffe and Dean Owen Goffe.

She went to Liberty Elementary School, Lincoln Junior High School and South High School. She also attended the University of Utah until she was married.

She married John Richard (Dick to friends and JR to his family) McGhan on August 12^th, 1948. Their marriage and family was later sealed together for time and eternity in the Salt Late Temple on June 28^th, 1962. While living in Salt Lake, she had 5 sons; Craig Richard McGhan, Brian Wayne McGhan, David Owen McGhan, Curtis Clark McGhan and Mark Douglas McGhan. Joyce adored her family and spent her life caring for them and serving them. They were her life. She supported her husband in everything he did. She always said her marriage was perfect. She was a kind and loving daughter and daughter-in-law. She devoted many hours of her life to their care and was always concerned for their well-being.

In 1973 the family moved to Arizona and had their first home in Tempe, and later moved to the city of Mesa, where she remained until her death.

She always said she was greatly blessed with her daughters-in-law and loved them very much. As for her grandchildren, they were the light of her life. She loved them and always looked forward to the time that she could spend with them.

Joyce was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served many years in the Primary and in the Relief Society, giving many hours of compassionate service.

She was preceded in death by her parents Buck and Ida, brothers Dick (Pat), Dean and her loving husband, JR.

She is survived by her children; Craig (Kim), Brian (Wendy), David, Curtis (Marie) and Mark, 32 Grandchildren,  59 Great Grandchildren, and Sister in Law Myrl (Goffe).

A wonderful Wife, Daughter, Mother, Aunt, Grandmother,  Great Grandmother, and Friend. She will be greatly missed. Her family will always remember her with love.
