Dohn R Buchanan was born on March 4, 1925 in Venice, Utah to Golden R and Thelma Shaw Buchanan.  He died on January 5, 2016 in Mesa, Arizona.    Dohn had two younger brothers, Thayne and Richard (deceased).  As a youth, he kept busy on the family farm and at their feed mill.  He got his pilot’s license when he was 16.  In high school, he played the sousaphone and played football.  He graduated from Richfield High School (UT) in 1943 and then joined the Navy.  He was stationed in Boulder, CO, Jacksonville, FL and Alameda, CA.   He was very proud to serve his country and to be a “Navy man”.   On April 14, 1944, Dohn married his sweetheart Mavis Ware in the Manti Temple.  They had three children, Joyce, Shauna and Robert.  Dohn was an exceptionally hard worker and always on the go.  He loved to fly and owned three airplanes during his lifetime.  He also loved cars and seemed to have a new car every six months.  He loved to drive and would drive hundreds of miles at the least suggestion.   He loved his family and traveled great distances to visit them including an overseas trip to Papua New Guinea.  Dohn was a real estate broker and developer.  He developed Uptown Plaza in central Phoenix, La Placita in downtown Tucson, developed land for homes, and many more projects.  Dohn was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints serving in Bishoprics, on Stake High Councils, and was executive secretary to a Regional Representative in Tucson, Arizona.  Being in the real estate business, he helped the Church purchase property for chapels in the Tucson area.  Dohn and Mavis also served a mission at the Mesa AZ Family History Center.

Dohn is survived by his wife, Mavis of 71 years; children, Joyce Howe (David), Shauna Bunker (Edward-deceased), Robert Buchanan, and Patricia Nelson.  He has 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to his caregivers at Heartprints Elderly Care for their loving kindness and to Reflections Hospice and Palliative Care.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. at the LDS church, 48th Street Building, 1249 South 48th Street, Mesa, AZ  85206.  Interment will be Wednesday, Jan. 20 at 1:00 pm in the Glenwood Pioneer Cemetery in Glenwood, Utah.  Friends may call at the Magleby Mortuary in Richfield, UT on Wednesday, the 20th from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Arrangements are under the care of Bunker Family Funeral Home.
